Open Air Burning Permits

 

Applying for an Open Air Burn Permit 

Open Air Burning is NOT permitted in any residential area or rural residential area within the Township.

A permit is NOT required for cooking fires and recreational fires. However, safety provisions apply to the setting and supervision of all fires.

Permits will only be issued during regular business hours (Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)

METHODS OF APPLYING FOR A BURN PERMIT:

A property owner can fill out the application online on the Township’s website. 

Once the permit application has been received, staff will review the application to determine if the property is eligible for an open air burning permit.

Once the permit application has been approved, staff will contact you with payment instructions.

Once payment has been received, staff will process the permit and send an approved copy of the permit back to you via email.

Please note, your permit application will not be processed and is not valid until payment has been received.

Once your permit application has been received and approved, you can complete your payment through Electronic Money Transfer.

Once your permit application has been received and approved, you can complete your payment with a credit card.

During regular business hours (8:30 am – 4:00 pm), call in a credit card (VISA or MasterCard). Please call 519-856-9596 ext. 101. If you get voicemail, please leave your name, phone number and that you’re calling for a burn permit payment and staff will get back to you as soon as possible.

Once payment has been received, staff will contact you via email with your approved permit.


Any Open Air Burning requires a permit issued by the Township. 

Open Air Burning is defined as the ignition or incineration by fire of combustibles for the purpose of burning grass, clean wood other combustibles in any open place, yard, field or construction area, which is not enclosed by a building or structure and includes fires in barrels and Fire Pits.

Open Air Burning is not permitted in any residential area or rural residential area within the Township unless approved by a permit and is generally only permitted if the property has indicated they meet the setback requirements of 7m from any building, structure, hedge, fence, road, overhead wire, trees or obstruction of any kind.

Permit Fee

The fee for the permit is $28.00 and is valid for one year from the date that your permit is issued.
