2018 Municipal election

Guelph/Eramosa's next Municipal Election is taking place on October 22, 2018.  More information about the voters' list, voting locations and advance polls will be made available here at getvoting.ca in early 2018.

Voting Method

Vote by Mail was the voting method used in the 2014 Municipal Election and this will be the voting method used in the 2018 Municipal Election.  

Ranked Ballots

Staff Report 16/38 was presented to Council on November 21, 2016 about the option of having a ranked ballot election in 2018.  At that time, it was decided that the Township of Guelph/Eramosa will not be using ranked balloting for the 2018 Municipal Election.

Candidates and Nominations

The nomination period for individuals to register as candidates has changed as a result of recent amendments to the Municipal Elections Act.  The nomination period now begins May 1st and ends on July 27th, 2018.  Those wishing to register as candidates in the 2018 municipal election must ensure that their nomination papers are filed within this time period.  More information including forms and other relevant documents will be made available in early 2018.

Third Party Advertisers

The Municipal Elections Act now includes requirements for Third Party Advertisers.  Regulations will come into effect on April 1, 2018 for the 2018 Municipal Election.  More information including forms and other relevant documents will be made available in early 2018.

Each candidate who filed a nomination for the 2014 Municipal Election must file a Financial Statement (Form 4) with the Town Clerk in accordance with Section 78 of the Municipal Elections Act, no later than Friday March 27th, 2015 at 2pm. These financial statements are public documents and are legally required to be made available for inspection and scrutiny on the Town website.
