Key Dates

This list is by no means comprehensive but serves to inform prospective candidates of some of the more important dates for the 2026 Municipal Election. Dates are subject to be modified to ensure accuracy

April 23, 2026 Candidate Packages The Clerk’s Department will endeavour to have candidate packages ready.
May 1, 2026 Nomination and Registration Periods Begin Candidates who register with the Clerk will be provided a Candidate Package, including a certificate of the applicable interim maximum amount of expenses. Candidates can start incurring expenses once the certificate has been issued.
June 1, 2026 School Support Designation Final day to designate the school board you support - if one does not declare their school support, it will automatically adjust to English Public School Boards 
June 17, 2026 Park Pop-up come visit us at the elections table to learn more about the election process!
July 8, 2026 Park Pop-up come visit us at the elections table to learn more about the election process!
July 30, 2026 Party in the Park  come visit us at the elections table at Party in the Park 2026 to learn more about the election process!
August 21, 2026 Nomination Day On Nomination Day, nominations may only be filed between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
August 21, 2026 Withdraw Deadline A candidate who wishes to withdraw their nomination must notify the clerk in writing before 2:00 p.m.
August 24, 2026 Clerk Certifies List of Candidates All nominations to be examined and certified by 4 p.m. and declare the candidate(s) elected by acclamation.
September 1, 2026 Voter’s List Reproduction and Revision Period Begins Last day for reproducing the voters’ list and determining the revision procedures. On written request, the Clerk shall provide copies of the voters’ list to those referred to under subsection 23(3) of the Municipal Elections Act. On written request, the Clerk shall provide candidates with a copy of the part of the voters’ list that contains the names of the electors who are entitled to vote for that office. From September 1 until the close of voting on voting day (October 26), a person may submit an application to have their name added to or removed from the voters’ list, or to have their information on the voters’ list amended. From September 1 until the close of voting on voting day (October 26), a person may submit an application requesting that a deceased person’s name be removed from the voters’ list.
September 14, 2026 Election Signs Erected No person shall place an Election Sign, or cause an Election Sign to be placed on any premises until after the issuance of writs for provincial or federal elections, or within six weeks immediately preceding a municipal election. 
September 14, 2026 Interim List of Changes to the Voters’ List The Clerk shall prepare and distribute an interim list of the changes to voters’ list that were approved on or before September 14

September 25-28, 2026 Voter Kit's will be mailed out.
September 30, 2026 Last day for the clerk to notify candidates of max expenses and contributions for election spending
October 13, 2026 Voter Kit Return Date This is the last recommendated date to return Voter Kits via regular mail.
October 23, 2026 Final day for Third Party Advertisers to file a notice of registration
October 26, 2026 Election Day!
October 27, 2026 Deadline for the Clerk to release the results of the election
November 15, 2026 2026-2030 Term Begins
