By-Law Enforcement

By-law Enforcement Services is responsible for the enforcement of By-laws passed by the Mayor and Council of the Township of Guelph/Eramosa as well as certain Provincial Legislation. The Township employs one by-law enforcement officer, who works on a full-time basis.

The Township's By-law Enforcement operates mainly on a complaint basis. When a complaint is received, it is investigated, and appropriate action is taken. The By-law Enforcement Officers may pursue an issue without a complaint, should the need arise. The goal of the Township is to achieve compliance with municipal by-laws through education and mediation first, and through enforcement where necessary. The Township strives to enforce the municipal by-laws in a fair and consistent manner. 

Bylaw Enforcement is committed to delivering professional by-law enforcement in a timely and effective manner and to achieving compliance with municipal by-laws through education and enforcement when required.

Our primary goals while enforcing municipal by-laws include: 

• Ensuring public safety;
• Maintaining community standards that contribute to the quality of life in the community; and
• Managing behavioural and nuisance issues to promote a harmonious living environment.
