Located in the 64 acre lands of Marden Park, two kilometres west of Highway 6 in Guelph/Eramosa Township, the Royal Distributing Athletic Performance Centre is the first public facility of its kind in Wellington County.
This state-of-the-art facility houses a world class artificial turf sports field that is able to accommodate single full field games or several simultaneous activities on a safely divided field. A perimeter rubberized track offers a training area for amateur athletes and a walking/jogging track for the public. In this facility, you will also find a coaching/learning room, outdoor multi-purpose fields, an outdoor fully lit, CFL size football field and additional amenities and services. The building compliments the features of the surrounding park, including the natural wooded areas, a 5.5 acre pond, a cold water stream, outdoor sports fields, picnic areas, community centre, and county library. Welcome to the Royal Distributing Athletic Performance Centre (RDAPC)!
This facility provides the residents of the Township and their guests a year round multi-use facility that offers programming to all demographics and sport team compositions. Regionally, the facility provides added opportunity to the currently under-serviced demand for indoor field facilities. The Royal Distributing Athletic Performance Centre will become a landmark and a destination for members of the community and visitors alike who enjoy indoor and outdoor sporting activities, picnics, hiking, fishing, and many more activities within the park. The Athletic Performance Centre also includes the development of an adjacent fully lighted outdoor regulation sized sports field.
This 56,000 sq. ft. facility has been designed to respond and be respectful of its immediate context and the environment. Given the inherited characteristics and requirements of a project of this size and nature, the building was carefully and skillfully planned with special emphasis on the control and reduction of energy consumption. The introduction of perimeter clear storey windows allows the building to harvest natural light into the interior while improving the playing experience of its users.
The implementation and use of aesthetic and innovative materials maximize the long-term efficiency of the building and will ensure the reduction of operational costs, maintenance and a reduced carbon footprint
The architectural features of the building pay homage to the rural character and nature of the site and the community. Being surrounded by vast farm fields, The Royal Distributing Athletic Performance Centre replicates some of the vernacular architectural elements found in rural Ontario.
